Dreaming Of Scotland, An Imagined Landscape Oil Painting of Scotland.
Dreaming of Scotland is an imagined landscape that came from attempting to push my work in a less literal direction. It was painted simultaneously with a commission of flat moorlands by the sea of the West Coast of Scotland.
The commission had a similar light with a bright band of light sandwiched between a dark sky and dark uncultivated Moorland with the light catching the sea beyond. The aim was to simplify the image, leaving very little detail to better express the emotional impact of looking out to sea over the land towards the light in the distance, the river drawing the eye toward the horizon.
I called this piece “Dreaming of Scotland” because it wasn’t any place specifically, a memory or dream of a place.
