Abstract Acrylic Landscape Painting Of Light Between The Rocks

This series of small abstract landscapes are inspired by spending time where I grow up in Scotland. They are small paintings reflecting on the different light at various times of the day around the loch or on the beach. Some are from memory and some imagined. They focus on the psychological response to the experience of being in a place, where the detail of landscape is left to the viewers interpretation. These four are very personal to me, not only because they are about a place that is means a lot but also mark a change in the direction of my work.

These first small abstract landscapes are prototypes of a series that I intend to add to. Small paintings completed in one session, either from quick sketches or from memory. I like the immediacy of working fast without a defined idea of physical outcome, focusing on the emotional experience of being in the landscape. I am starting to make some larger works along these lines.
