Landscape Painting Of The Sunlight and Clouds Mealisval On The Isle Of Lewis In The Outer Hebrides
The Outer Hebrides in Autumn has an ever-changing array of atmosphere, weather and light. Bright sunshine one moment and then the clouds creep their fingers down the slopes of the mountain. This painting is done from memory after making quick sketches of the clouds on Mealisval. The tips of the clouds and parts of the mountain are lit up by the low sun.
This is a classic image of these islands. One I saw many times during my stay on Lewis. I arrived just before the 2019 Storm Lorenzo reached these shores. I have always been fascinated by the way clouds are attracted to the contours of the mountain. There is an oil painting in this collection depicting the same scene, “Sunlight and Clouds On Mealisval, Lewis”
