Statement and info for Beep 2024
Both my paintings I have submitted deal with the part of the lyric I wont stay.
“Leaving Europe” deals with my ease of movement compared with that of others.
Borders are an emerging theme in my work. I see borders, not just as physical demarcations on a map, but as complex symbols that define, divide, and connect us. Borders, to me, are multifaceted; they represent safety and exclusion, identity and division, freedom and restriction.
“Leaving Earth”, is captured from a television still of a rocket launch. It is an intriguing and contradictory image that has been altered by the various screens it has passed through.It looks like a star being shot into the sky. It also conjures up religious imagery or the resurrection of a soul departing life. It is also the result of a violent explosion.
I may be an ideologist, I am definitely a peace lover. At present those in charge seem bent on endless conflict, greed and disregard for what is best for humanity.
I would like to agree the the lyric but I don’t have a choice.
