Selected Paintings

“My paintings seek to capture not simply the landscape, but the air around it, the radiance of light and the sense of something infinite within the natural world.”

These selected paintings span different landscapes and periods of my work, from the remote shores and mountains of Scotland to the moors, marshes and coastlines of southern England. Throughout, my fascination with light, atmosphere and the changing character of the natural world has remained constant.

Over the years, my painting has become increasingly concerned with distilling these experiences to their essence. I am less interested in describing a particular place than in conveying the feeling of being there. Through a gradual reduction of detail and an increasing emphasis on light and atmosphere, I seek to evoke the stillness, mystery and sense of vastness that first drew me to these landscapes.
